Michael Gibson

Musician Michael Gibson was born and raised in Wilmington, Delaware. He graduated from Harvard University and the Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he studied trombone. As a trombonist, he started his career working with soul singer James Brown in New York, but moved into Broadway musicals in 1972. He went on to orchestrate dozens of popular Broadway musicals, including "Grease" , "All Shook Up" , "Guys and Dolls" , "Anything Goes" and "Kiss of the Spider Woman". He was nominated for two Tony Awards for best orchestration, for "Steel Pier" (1997) and the revival of "Cabaret." In total, he orchestrated over 100 Broadway, off-Broadway and regional theatre shows. . . . Michael Gibson died of lung cancer at a New Jersey hospice (St. Clare's Hospital in Dover) on 15-July-05 he was age 60.
