Celebrating the life of...
Sperry Andrews
(1917 - 2005)
RIP - Charles Sperry Andrews III
Sperry Andrews

New York born painter Charles Sperry Andrews III was a New York born painter who's oil and watercolor landscape paintings have been exhibited at several galleries in Connecticut and New York. He had served in the Army in World War II. . . . He was famously known for the fact that he and his wife Doris Bass Andrews, helped to preserve the home of influential 19th-century American Impressionist Julian Alden Weir as a national park, the only park dedicated to American painting and painters. The couple became aware that Weir had used a farm in Branchville, Connecticut, as a country retreat. In 1957 they bought the house & barn (including the studio and all its contents), then looked after it for the next 40 years - making every effort not to change anything. His wife died in 2003 . . . He died of pneumonia in Danbury, Connecticut, he was age 87. He was buried at Hillside Cemetery in Wilton on Tuesday 19-July-05.
